Asset/Fund Management
The client, a major South African Asset Management organization with a client/investor base of around 10 000 accounts. The complexity of this data consolidation exercise lay in the fact that information was collected from multiple different technology sources (cloud and API’s) while keeping the relational dependencies between these sources intact. Added to this, the further complexity of fund and asset management structures as an industry.
The client asked Youngblood to assist with consolidation and data verification processes.
Principles
The client needed an automated process that was:
- Auditable from outcome back to source with hash totals, control balances, record counts and
update histories - Manage exceptions via control checks, so problems could be identified and resolved before
statement generation to investors and stakeholders. - Highly automated, reducing the cost of manual intervention to a minimum
- Flexible, accommodating a wide range of business processes, database technologies (both
cloud and subscription sources) and migration rulesets.
Process
Youngblood made use of SSIS and proven BI/Data Migration methodologies that managed the auditability of the data flow from source, through multiple staging areas for consumption by the target system. Control checks was developed for each data set and between multiple datasets to manage data mismatches between these subsets, groupings, exclusions, duplications, errors and exceptions to enable notifications and corrections at source or dynamically if required.
The understanding of asset and fund management principles enabled us to quickly determine the right approach and secure the accurate and predictable flow of data to the end consumers of data.
