Cloud computing has become a strategic move for many organisations looking to reach their objectives through digital transformation. It is not going to slow down this year either, as the following 2018 trends show.
1. Exponential Growth through SaaS, IaaS, Paas
The number of cloud solutions available in both public and private sectors is expected to rise substantially. More and more organisations switch to more flexible and affordable cloud solutions.
Software as a Service (SaaS), Infrastructure as a Service (Iaas) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) will continue to be deployed and used worldwide, as predicted by Cisco in a 2016 survey, with SaaS in the lead.
The Cisco survey forecasts that SaaS will account for 60% of all cloud-based workload, a 12% increase from the 2017 predictions, while Paas will have a more modest 5% increase.
2. Increased Cloud Storage Capacity
According to the above Cisco survey, the total storage capacity in the cloud will double this year compared to 2017, to an astonishing 1.1 ZB.
Data centre operators and service providers will experience a busy year in increasing available storage for organisations needing to host and access huge amounts of big data, perform complex analytics, and generate valuable insights regarding customer behaviour and other strategic data.
3. The Internet of Everything (IoE)
Continous innovations in cloud computing and real-time data analytics are giving way to the rise of IoE in 2018, set to push boundaries in machine-to-machine communication, and human-machine interactions.
The focus this year, expanding on last year’s artificial intelligence (AI) and the internet of things (IoT) trends, is on systems development to simplify communications and streamline customer experience through the use of intelligent robots and automation.
Cloud computing-backed IoE will also be pivotal in providing businesses with the relevant data on how consumers relate and use a specific product or machine.
4. Fast 5G Network Expansion
The rise of LTE and 5G networks means faster and better connections for both consumers and organisations worldwide, as well as the above-referenced IoT and IoE industries.
Cloud computing will take advantage of the surging gigabyte speeds to enhance network quality, instant access to data, fast-loading services and high-responsive apps and machines.
The new wave of 5G capabilities will usher network upgrades for increase SaaS performance and cloud-enabled business services, allowing organisations to receive and analyse more data at higher speeds.
