VMware is Ready for 5G with OpenStack Integration

Through VMware’s virtualised infrastructure, enterprises already have access to a high-performance platform based on an open architecture to accelerate production network functions virtualisation (NFV) workload deployment.

Further integration with OpenStack 5 not only introduces new functionality but it aids in the network evolution towards 5G.

VMware Integrated OpenStack 5 adds new features to assist customers to simplify, scale and secure OpenStack environments and supports the fully open source OpenStack code in a multi-cloud architecture.

In a nutshell, VMware Integrated OpenStack provides organisations with the fastest and most efficient solution to deploy and operate OpenStack clouds optimised for VMware’s NFV and software-defined data centre (SDDC) infrastructure.

The solution benefits from advanced automation and onboarding, as well as compliance with the OpenStack Foundation’s 2018.02 interoperability guidelines. VMware’s support in the OpenStack community allows for easy integration and built-in upgrade capabilities for OpenStack deployment.

According to the NFV business unit at VMware, VMware Integrated OpenStack 5 “enables customers to achieve the massive scale required to power Telco and private clouds globally, and address NFV and edge computing use cases as telecom networks evolve towards 5G.”

The solution is aimed at CSPs, mobile operators, cloud providers, and enterprises who consider a secure and performant NFV-based network services and 5G-ready infrastructure, achievable in both VMware Integrated OpenStack Carrier and Data Center Editions.

New key NFV functionality includes accelerated data performance in VMware vSphere, improvements in response time, reduced network latencies, multi-tenant resource scaling to accommodate extra data loads, enabling high availability for mission-critical workloads in a unified virtualised environment with advanced security.

Aside from the built-in deployment for 5G and Edge computing, additional capabilities refer to advanced workload analytics, 360-degree visibility with real-time insights, optimisation and Standardisation of DNS Services, and high-scale monitoring for VMs and containers across a single virtualised infrastructure manager (VIM).
